The Orpheus Choir of North Hertfordshire

The Orpheus Choir  is a group of 20 to 30 singers who enjoy singing music in parts (Bass, Tenor, Contralto, Soprano) ; with a view to performance of the music. We sing a wide range of music both unaccompanied (a capella) and accompanied.
The music ranges from Renaissance to Modern Day.

We are interested in applications from Tenors and other parts to join the choir.

Cream Tea and Choir - a concert by the Orpheus choir, St Mary's  Rushden Church (Rushden is on the road between Baldock and Buntingford)  6:30pm July 6th. Cost £12 (children 1/2 price). Tel : 01763 288 165 for tickets. Includes cream tea before concert (from 4:30pm to 5:30pm) and Pimms in the interval of the concert.

Cream teas available from 4:30pm to around 5:30pm concert starts at 6:30 pm (directions to cream teas available near the church). Drinks (Pimms and soft drinks) in the interval.

The Orpheus Choir are joined by a brass octet for Rutter's Gloria,  music by Gabrieli, a specially commissioned fanfare by Baldock student Frances Balmer, music by Tavener and Boughton and a choral version of  the
Widor Toccata.

A Meditation for Holy Week
Church Service at St Nicholas Old Stevenage, Herts
  8:00 pm - 22nd March 2005 (Tuesday) -
including Lamentations (Tallis), Crucifixus (Lotti), Spirituals (Tippet), Hear My Prayer (Purcell).

Concert at the Parish Church Blunham Saturday November 27th 2004 at 7:30 pm. Tickets £6 (children £4) including refreshments :

'Autumn Leaves' - music of all colours including spirituals, Advent motets, and pieces by Elgar, Faure and others.

Music for Advent Church service Stansted Abbots Old Church  4.00 pm - 5th December 2004 (wrap up warm - candle lit - bring a light if you need to read the hymns - historic old church with old style 'railway carriage' family pews and no electricty).

The Orpheus Choir provided the choral music for a Dedication Service at St. Michael's Letchworth (the church near the fountain on the Letchworth Broadway) on Sunday 3rd of October 2004 at 6:30 pm

On 10 July 2004 we had a very successful concert at Rushden church  including Joseph Horovitz's Summer Sunday - a 'comical - tragical - ecological'  pastoral  for choir. The concert was the last for our previous conductor David Bullen who has been a great success as our conductor for the past two years. Anne-Marie Hetherington has recently been appointed as our new conductor (July 2004).

We normally sing by invitation in and around Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire (at Benslow Hills , Churches  and in local Villages and Towns). We have also been invited to provide the music further afield such as in Gloucester Cathedral (for weekend services) and in Yorkshire for a Three Choirs Festival (Helmsley).
